PRAY FOR OUR CHILDREN
Praying for my son was one of the most important things I felt I could do as a mother. The dilemma of parenting can be overwhelming. I know of those who don’t go right home from work because they don’t know how to be a parent. They feel the task of bringing up a child went way over their heads. They recognize that their children need them, but they’re not sure they know how to “give” to them. Can you relate? Do you feel adequate at work, but not so much with your children and how to bring them up?
Parenting isn’t easy. Raising spiritually, emotionally, and physically healthy children can be challenging at times. The first to be done as a parent is to be a learner. Be one who is taught and one who listens to and follows Jesus. Once you develop a discipline of being in the presence of the Lord alone, then He will help you bring up your children.
Here are a few things you can do with your children:
Invite your children to pray with you about decisions they may be facing.Ask God to give you both clear direction and certainty.
Invite your children to pray with you about any struggles or hardships they may be facing.Ask God for wisdom and guidance.
Let your children hear you call on our Heavenly Father and voice your trust in His care.Look for how God answers, and then be sure to celebrate His provision.
Begin to have your quiet moments with God. As difficult as it may be, carve out some time to be still and free of distractions. Those are the times when you will feel God’s love. He is the one that will equip you with everything you need. Pray with your children, daily and often. Trust that God will lead you as you begin your journey of learning and listening to Jesus. Remember that your children are watching you and will mimic what you do.
Psalm 127:3
Children are a heritage of the Lord, and the fruit of the womb is His reward.
Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.
